Infertility in men

Infertility in men

Infertility in men

Fertility issues are not uncommon, up to 20% of couples encounter some of them. Nobody should feel ashamed by them. Moreover, male infertility had risen substantially in the past decades to the point where half of the causes of infertility lay on the man’s side.

Causes of Male Infertility:

In addition to congenital genetic or acquired causes, there is a wide array of other factors influencing sperm quality:

  • Increased temperatue – caused by wearing tight clothes, frequent using of sauna, heated car seats, working with notebook on the lap
  • Smoking, marijuana usage
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Prescription drugs – especially those issued for high blood pressure and post-chemotherapy drugs
  • Stress

Several semen analysis methods exist. Spermiogramme – microscopic analysis of ejaculate - is one the most common ones.

How We Examine the Causes of Male Infertility

After an initial consultation, we recommend a check-up to confirm or rule out the cause of infertility. Nowadays, an infertile couple is mostly the result of negative factors on both sides.

Anamnesis

All examination is preceded by anamnesis. We inquire about severe illnesses, allergies, operations, long-term drug or prescription drug usage, injury or pain in testes. We focus on any factor that could affect your fertility. Based on your anamnesis, we recommend the best suited examination

Spermiogramme

Spermiogramme is the basic male examination. There are several possible causes of infertility, such as low volume of ejaculate, low sperm count, their insufficient mobility or poor morphology.

Spermiogramme values vary greatly in time, which means that the testing must be repeated after enough time passes. Otherwise, a conclusion from only one spermiogramme is not reliable.

Cultivation Sperm Examination

Cultivation sperm examination detects possible infectious diseases of male sex organs. Ruling out infection or healing it is essential for overall treatment. Infectious diseases has negative effects on fertility. It reduces sperm mobility, impedes their ability to enter the egg or provokes antibody production.

Andrological Examination

The point of this examination is to dismiss an illness of the epididymis, testes or prostate as main cause of infertility.

Genetical Examination

Genetical examinations are a recent breakthrough in the treatment of infertility. They are a part of every couple’s examination, as they not only help discover the cause of infertility, but laso positively impact future treatment.

Hormonal Examination

Hormonal imbalance is a very rare cause of male infertility, affecting less than 3% of men. If your case requires a hormonal examination, we use a blood sample.
