Menopause
Menopause occurs at the age of 50-52 years
Menopause is the period when the ovaries stop functioning and, therefore, there is little estrogen, the production of which stops abruptly. Low levels of estrogens (including androgens) have numerous early and late consequences that significantly reduce quality of life, while chronic diseases progress unstoppably. Up to the risk of old age disease and total dependence of life on the environment. The lower the estrogen levels, the more pronounced the disorders. Menopause occurs between the ages of 50 and 52.
The early phase of menopause
In the early stages of menopause, symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness and mood changes such as anxiety and depression are common. In late menopause, the quality of skin and hair, cognition deteriorates, arthrosis, atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, etc.
Hormone replacement therapy
For most symptoms and disorders, the only effective treatment is estrogen replacement, i.e. hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Unfortunately, some studies 18-20 years ago unfoundedly emphasized only the risks of this type of treatment. This is the reason for the significant 85% reduction in HRT users.
The consequence of not using HRT is a 55% increase in osteoporotic fractures, depression (and thus the use of antidepressants) and a significant reduction in women's quality of life. Repeated analyses of the above studies have shown that the risks of HRT are minimal (2-5%) and that the benefits of HRT significantly outweigh the risks.
Today, HRT is again strongly recommended for the following indications and circumstances:
