Outpatient hysteroscopy - instructions for patients
Hysteroscopy is usually performed without anaesthetic, but if necessary, you may be given a local anaesthetic at the start of the procedure. Of course, general anaesthesia is also possible.
At the MIA polyclinic, hysteroscopy is an outpatient procedure, which means you go home the same day. It is advisable to take a mild sedative and analgesic before the procedure.
Preoperative examination
You will meet with your doctor for a pre-operative exam. The doctor will explain the procedure to you. The first day of your last menstrual period is vital for planning the procedure, and it is also essential to know if you are allergic to any medications and to what kind.
The procedure is always scheduled immediately after your period.
You will sign a consent form and receive prescriptions on the day of the procedure.
Ibuprofen 800 mg 1 tablet: Take the tablet 1 hour before the scheduled procedure. This will reduce pain and prevent uterine cramping during the procedure. You can take the same treatment after the procedure if you have cramps after the procedure.
Normabel 5 mg: Take the tablet after settling in the room
How to prepare for the procedure?
What to expect after the procedure?
Expect to stay in the clinic for one to two hours after the procedure. Once again, we recommend that you do not drive yourself. The day after the procedure, you should return to your normal activities.
You may experience mild abdominal pain or cramps similar to menstrual pain. If you feel pain or cramps, feel free to take the analgesic that has been prescribed for you.
