The frequency of pathological changes increases with the woman's age, and in our clinic, they are diagnosed by extended gynaecological examination, ultrasound and, rarely, magnetic resonance imaging.
Of particular concern are premalignant and malignant changes in the uterus, of which the cervix is the site where the inner and outer envelope (epithelium) meet and which is particularly susceptible to viral inflammation by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Intraepithelial premalignant changes (CIN, ASC-US) of varying intensity and risk can occur there, so we always recommend anti-HPV vaccines to young girls.
